Background: and its companion Web site,, are educational initiatives of the Asia Society, which was founded by John D. Rockefeller III in 1956 to strengthen relationships and promote understanding among the people, leaders, and institutions of Asia and the United States.

Outstanding Web Features: provides ideas and resources for teachers, including lesson plans, essays, maps, and images. It also offers access to the Asia Society and National Geographic Education Foundation's online teacher community. The site features information for students on global issues, international careers, arts and culture, and Asian languages, as well as games and stories for small children. Based on a board game created by the University of Vermont, the China Game tests students' knowledge of the country and its culture.
