About the Organization:
Founded in 2008 by actress and philanthropist Angelina Jolie and Microsoft Corporation, (KIND) aims to mobilize a pro bono movement of law firms, corporations, nongovernmental organizations, universities, and volunteers to provide high-quality and compassionate legal counsel to unaccompanied refugee and immigrant children. The organization provides legal services, works to ensure that children who are ineligible to remain in the U.S. are returned to their communities safely and securely, and advocates for changes in U.S. immigration law, policy, and practice.
With offices in Baltimore, Boston, Houston, Newark, New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., KIND trains pro bono attorneys to represent child clients referred to the organization in their immigration proceedings and provides comprehensive mentorship throughout the process until the case is closed.
The is a pilot project developed in partnership with the to ensure the safe return of unaccompanied Guatemalan children and provide support and access to vital services upon their arrival in Guatemala.
