Mission:
To eliminate the main causes of avoidable blindness and visual impairment by bringing together governments and nongovernmental organizations around the planning, development, and implementation of sustainable national eye care programs.

About the Organization:
Established to lead and coordinate international efforts in blindness prevention, the is an alliance of more than a hundred civil society organizations, corporations, and professional associations working to promote eye health through advocacy, knowledge sharing, and partnerships. IAPB helped establish a program for prevention of blindness, which is now embodied in , a global initiative launched by the World Health Organization and various partners with the goal of eliminating avoidable blindness by the year 2020.

Current Programs:
Aligned with the , IAPB's Goal 2013-2017 includes a 25 percent reduction by 2019 in the prevalence of avoidable visual impairment, including among the most marginalized populations. To that end, the organization's advocacy efforts are focused on promoting policy change and planning in support of eye health programs and securing the resources to implement blindness prevention plans. In addition to Vision 2020, IAPB leads a variety of global eye health initiatives, including the , an initiative of the and the ; the , the world's leading procurement platform for eye health services in developing countries; and , a charity created by the and the International Centre for Eyecare Education (now the ).

of the alliance benefit from access to global forums and institutions such as the World Health Assembly, the UN Economic and Social Council, and the World Bank; work collaboratively through issue-oriented work groups; and have expanded opportunities for cross-sector partnerships. In partnership with the 's program, IAPB also offers members access to pro bono legal assistance.
