The Houston-based has announced grants totaling nearly $25 million over three years in support of basic research at colleges and universities in Texas.
The foundation awarded thirty-two grants totaling more than $7.5 million to researchers at four institutions in the Houston area — , , the , and . In the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, forty-two grants totaling $9.72 million were awarded to researchers at the , the , the , , and the . And in the San Antonio area, the foundation awarded four grants totaling $915,000 to researchers at the and the .
In addition, twenty-six grants totaling nearly $6.4 million were awarded to researchers at the , while the and each received a single grant of $195,000.
"Basic chemical research is investigative at its core and the building block of applied research," said Charles W. Tate, chair and director of the Welch Foundation board. "Funding from the Welch Foundation has proven invaluable to the propulsion of research at Texas educational institutions and we look forward to the contributions of this year's grant recipients."
