The has announced a gift of $20 million from Connie and Steve Ballmer to bolster graduate-level scholarships and other programs at its .
Roughly half the gift will be used for scholarships for graduate students, with the remainder going to various initiatives at the School of Social Work. The scholarships are designed to help recruit, educate, and retain social workers in the state. Over the past five years, the Ballmers have committed $11 million to the UW School of Social Work, including support to establish an endowed deanship in social work and for the school's initiatives in the state's child welfare system.
"This is going to change the lives of our students in profound ways," said Edwina Uehara, the Ballmer Endowed Dean in Social Work at UW. "We will be able to help students who need it and attract the brightest and best to the University of Washington. We are profoundly grateful to the Ballmers for their support."
