Tufts University Receives $15 Million for Civic Studies

has announced a $15 million gift from alumnus (A'76) Jonathan Tisch and his wife, Lizzie, to expand faculty and research programming at the .

The gift will endow professorships in the emerging field of civic studies and increase opportunities for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to participate in service learning, leadership development programs, and internships. In recognition of the gift, the college will be renamed the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life.

Tisch, vice chair of Tufts' board of trustees, is co-board chair and a member of the office of the president of , as well as chairman of its subsidiary, . A decade ago, he made a $40 million gift to Tufts to endow Tisch College

"Lizzie and I believe in the evolution of Tisch College and wanted to help ensure that it has a bright future, offering even more to the students at Tufts for decades to come," said Tisch. "What we're seeing here at Tufts is that young people today want to be engaged. They want to make a difference. Hopefully they will bring the experience and knowledge from Tisch College with them as they work with others to create an even better world."
