, a nonprofit organization that works to provide stable, loving families for orphaned and abandoned children in a hundred and thirty-four countries, has announced a $13 million grant from the family trust of Harry and Carol Goodman.
A brother of jazz legend Benny Goodman and musician in his own right, Harry Goodman also was a founder of Regent Music Corporation, which is now part of the , a music publishing and licensing company. In addition to a cash gift, the donation includes partial stock ownership in three SEG subsidiaries — Regent Music Corporation, Jewel Music Publishing, and Sunflower Music, Inc. The SEG catalog features music from a variety of popular artists, including Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and the Rolling Stones.
"After spending time in India and traveling around the world, my parents became committed to the cause of orphaned and abandoned children," said Jane Faulkner, Carol Goodman's daughter. "My mother and I spent time at the SOS Children's Village in India, where we saw first-hand the important work SOS does and the impact SOS mothers have on the lives of children in need."
