Skillman Foundation Awards Grants Totaling $3 Million

The Detroit-based has announced grants totaling more than $3 million to nonprofit organizations working in the areas of community leadership, education, public policy, public safety, social innovation, and youth development.

Grant recipients include the , which was awarded $200,000 to expand a comprehensive crime prevention strategy that uses community intelligence and threat assessment, gang interventions, nuisance abatement, landlord training, criminal investigations, and analytical support to help neighborhood leaders and citizen patrols; and the , which will receive $100,000 to provide mobile technology equipment to police officers working in targeted neighborhoods and pay for a consultant with community policing experience to lead the Children in Trauma Intervention Camp.

Other grants include $200,000 to the in support of its 2014 Building Sustainable Communities initiative; $100,000 to the to provide ten additional college scholarships; $200,000 to the in support of its Motor City Blight Mapping initiative; and $400,000 to in support of summer youth employment and work readiness programs offered through the organization's "Grow Detroit's Young Talent" initiative.
