The in New York City has announced grants totaling $25.6 million to performing arts organizations — its thirty-fourth consecutive year of increased grantmaking.
Unrestricted grants ranging from $10,000 to $115,000 were awarded to five hundred and six theaters, dance companies, professional theater training programs, and other arts organizations across the United States — a record number of grants for the foundation. Recipients include , which was awarded $200,000; the in Salt Lake City, which will receive $50,000; , which was awarded $60,000; and in Portland, which will receive $20,000. In addition, seven colleges, including the , received grants through the Shubert Scholars Program, which was created two years ago to provide scholarship assistance to graduate students in theater arts.
"Our longstanding practice of providing help in the form of general operating support remains unchanged," said Shubert Foundation board president Michael I. Sovern. "We are convinced that talented artists and administrators are best able to decide how to use the funds we grant."
