The in New York City has announced grants totaling $30 million to performing arts organizations across the country, making this the thirty-sixth consecutive year that the foundation has increased its grantmaking.
Unrestricted grants ranging between $10,000 and $115,000 were awarded to five hundred and thirty-three national and local theaters, dance companies, professional theater-training programs, and other arts organizations, with a focus on professional resident theater and dance companies that develop and produce new American work. Recipients include the , the , the in Atlanta, in New York, and in Chicago.
"Our longstanding practice of providing help in the form of general operating support remains unchanged," said Shubert Foundation president Michael I. Sovern. "We are convinced that talented artists and administrators are best able to decide how to use the funds we grant."
"Every organization receiving a 2018 foundation grant has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the performing arts," said foundation board chair Philip J. Smith. "We want to help lift some of the financial burden so that the companies we support are able to focus on producing thought-provoking, relevant work for the widest possible audience."
