Through its 2017 Grants Program, the in New York City has announced grants totaling $26.8 million to performing arts organizations across the country.
Unrestricted grants ranging from $10,000 to $115,000 were awarded to five hundred and thirty-three national and local theaters, dance companies, professional theater-training programs, and other arts organizations — the most ever for the foundation. Recipients include the , the in Connecticut, the in New York City, in Washington, D.C., the in Chicago, in California, and the in Ashland.
The grants also include funds awarded through the Shubert Scholars program, which provides scholarship assistance to students in graduate-degree programs in the theater arts. Since 1977, the foundation has awarded more than $413 million in grants to U.S. arts organizations.
"Our longstanding practice of providing help in the form of general operating support remains unchanged," said Shubert Foundation president Michael I. Sovern. "We are convinced that talented artists and administrators are best able to decide how to use the funds we grant."
