RWJF Awards Fourth Round of Future of Nursing Grants

The has announced grants totaling more than $3.8 million to twenty-eight schools of nursing in support of postsecondary graduate nursing education.

Awarded through the foundation's initiative, the grants will support fifty-one nurses, with each school selecting up to two nursing scholars who will receive $75,000 in financial support, mentoring, and leadership development over the three years of their Ph.D. program. The fourth cohort will boost the number of scholars participating in the program to a hundred and sixty, and a fifth cohort, to be announced at a future date, is expected to raise the total to more than two hundred nurses.

"The Future of Nursing Scholars program is making an incredible impact in real time," said Julie Fairman, Future of Nursing Scholars program co-director and chair of the Department of Biobehavioral Health Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. "These nurses will complete their Ph.D.s in three years, a much quicker progression than is typically seen in nursing Ph.D. programs."
