ProMedica Receives $28.5 Million Gift for Toledo Health Initiative

, a nonprofit health system serving twenty-seven counties in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, has announced a $28.5 million gift from Carolee Ebeid and her late husband, Russell J. Ebeid, to establish a research center and neighborhood revitalization program focused on Toledo and surrounding communities. 

Part of a ten-year, $50 million community health initiative, the gift will support research and programs related to the social determinants of health, including factors such as income, education, housing, and food insecurity. With an additional $21.5 million to be raised by ProMedica, the gift will support an initiative, the Ebeid Neighborhood Program (ENP), focused on the delivery of a full range of social and educational services in the city's UpTown neighborhood. The gift also will be used to expand the work of the and, in partnership with the , create a multidisciplinary center dedicated to research on the social determinants of community health.

In recognition of the gift, will be renamed for Russell Ebeid, who was president and chair of Michigan-based . His Toledo-area philanthropy was inspired by his granddaughter, Kristina, who received business and nursing degrees from Lourdes University and became a ProMedica nurse.
