New York Community Trust Announces $4.7 Million in Grants

The has announced grants totaling $4.7 million to nonprofit organizations in New York City and around the country.

Seventy-six grants were awarded in support of a broad range of programs, including initiatives in the arts, education, health and human services, and youth development. Recipients include , which was awarded $200,000 in support of its new Young Adult Sectoral Employment Project; the , which received $150,000 to improve retention and graduation rates among minority students; the , which was awarded $100,000 in support of its Green Fleets campaign, an effort to persuade American companies nationwide to reduce the amount of oil they use; and the , which received $90,000 to ensure that New York State's health insurance exchange meets the needs of immigrants.

Using a gift of $200,000 from the , the trust also awarded grants to organizations working to rebuild from Superstorm Sandy. Nonprofits receiving awards include the in Far Rockaway, Queens; the in the Two Bridges/Chinatown area of Manhattan; the ; ; in Far Rockaway; and in Rockaway Park.
