has announced a $12.3 million gift from alumni Tommy and Terri Nusz.
The gift, which brings to $375 million the total raised by the university's "Infinite Impact" campaign, will help fund a number of programs, initiatives, and schools at the university in Starkville. They include the , which will receive $250,000 for a strategic initiative fund to be used at the discretion of the dean of engineering; $1 million to create the Nusz Engineering Student Excellence Endowment for study-abroad programs and technology society memberships; $1.75 million to create the Thomas B. Nusz Endowed Chair, with a focus on petroleum- and energy-related study; and $1 million toward construction of a new engineering and science building to house MSU's civil and environmental engineering department.
The gift also includes $2 million for construction of a new facility for the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans; $2 million toward construction of a new sports facility; $300,000 to establish the Meagan Nusz Excellence in Women's Sports Fund — named for the couple's daughter, an accomplished equestrian; and $1 million in support of several sports programs, including men's baseball and women's basketball, softball, and volleyball. In addition, the gift will benefit the and a proposed partnership with the Starkville-Oktibbeha County Schools that would create a PK-12 school adjacent to the MSU campus.
Tommy Nusz is president, CEO, and board chair of Houston-based , which he co-founded in 2007. Tommy and Terri Nusz met as MSU students and both graduated in 1982. Terri earned a degree in interior design. The Nusz connection with MSU began when Tommy's father, Dave Nusz, served as a defensive backfield coach for the Bulldog football team from 1970 to 1972.

Keenum. "This significant gift helps us continue the momentum in our capital campaign and will be invaluable as we provide funding for much-needed facilities, endowed positions in engineering and veterinary medicine, a pioneer school for research in education, generous support for American veterans, and enhancements for our athletic programs."
