The has announced a three-year, $3.77 million grant from the to continue the work of the .
NTP promotes the development and touring of artist-led, ensemble, and devised theater works. To that end, NEFA will use the grant to make several elements of the program permanent. They include annual convenings for grantees; Finalist Development Grants of up to $10,000 for a small number of finalists that do not receive a Creation and Touring Grant; and Transition Grants, which are designed to help former NTP grantees boost their sustainability. Modeled on the now twenty-year-old , NTP has supported forty-three new theater works with grants totaling more than $4.4 million since 2010.
"NTP funds theater makers and their partners at cultural organizations across the U.S, many in small and mid-sized communities," said NEFA executive director Cathy Edwards. "Ensemble theater artists are catalysts for important, forward-thinking conversations about art and the well-being of communities,and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s commitment to supporting devised theater artists remains unparalleled."
