The has announced the recipients of the 2014 .
Seven organizations from three countries were recognized and, depending on the size of their budgets, will receive grants ranging from $500,000 to $1.5 million to build their cash reserves or endowments, develop a strategic plan, and/or upgrade their technology and physical infrastructure. The award is designed to help ensure the long-term sustainability of grantees engaged in work central to MacArthur's core programs.
This year's awardees are the ($750,000) in Washington, D.C.; the ($1 million); also in D.C.; ($1 million) in Arlington, Virginia; ($1 million) in New York City; the ($1 million) in Chicago; the ($1 million) in Toronto, Canada; and the ($750,000) in Abuja, Nigeria.
"From exposing human rights abuses in cyberspace to reducing the influence of money in American politics, the missions of these organizations are diverse," said MacArthur Foundation president Robert Gallucci. "They have each demonstrated outsized impact in improving the lives of people and communities. MacArthur hopes these investments will help sustain and expand their reach."
