in Nashville, Tennessee, has announced a $15 million gift from former Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets owner George Shinn for its .
The gift, the largest in the university's history, will support construction of a new events center within the college, which will be renamed the Shinn College of Entertainment & the Arts. The college, the fastest-growing school at Lipscomb, offers undergraduate degrees in cinematic arts, fashion and design, music, theater and dance, and visual arts, as well as a graduate program in cinematic arts.
Shinn, a resident of Franklin, Tennessee, is the founder of the , which reflecting Shinn's deep Christian faith, is dedicated to helping people in need.
"This is a significant moment in the history of Lipscomb University," said Lipscomb president L. Randolph Lowry. "We are grateful to George Shinn and his commitment to this institution. This gift is an investment in our College of Entertainment & the Arts as a way to continue to elevate the image of the school as a leader in arts and entertainment education in Nashville and in the nation. His generosity will also serve the greater Nashville community through the new events center that will be developed as a result."
