The Hoag Hospital Foundation, the charitable arm of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, California, has announced a $7 million gift from George Argyros, former U.S. ambassador to Spain, and his wife, Julia, to increase the number of scholarships for Hoag nurses.
Awarded through the Julia Argyros Center for Nursing Excellence, the funds will provide continuing education scholarships for nurses throughout the Hoag system. Longtime supporters of the Hoag network, the Argyroses have donated a total of $10 million in support its nursing programs.
"We are incredibly grateful for the Argyroses' generosity and dedication to Hoag and our nurses," said Hoag president and CEO Robert T. Braithwaite. "This donation will empower nurses to achieve their educational goals, take on advanced clinical roles in patient care, broaden their skill sets, mentor new Hoag nurses, and improve patient care, which is the heart of what we do."
