in Los Angeles has received a $6 million gift from Marcie and Howard Zelikow to expand programming and strengthen operations at its , the reports.
The lion's share of the gift —$5 million — will be added to the management school's endowment and be used to increase course offerings at the college's campuses in Cincinnati, New York, and Jerusalem. The remaining $1 million will be used for immediate operational needs. In recognition of the gift, the school will be renamed the Zelikow School of Nonprofit Management.
"Our gift has a dual mission," said Marcie Zelikow, who serves on HUC-JIR's board of governors. "We want to educate the next generation of Jewish nonprofit professionals, and we want to turn out rabbis and cantors who have training in nonprofit management....In the Jewish world, how come community leaders have to be in their mid-60s? Where are the Jewish leaders in their mid-40s?"
