Crowdfunding platform has announced that it has helped raise more than $135 million for 16,000 nonprofit organizations across the country since its launch in 2006, with more than half that amount raised in 2012.
Accounting for a large part of the funds raised are so-called Giving Days — locally targeted 11-hour online fundraising challenges that the company has hosted since 2009. Last November, Razoo's partnership with raised a record-breaking $16.3 million in a single day for Minnesota charities, with 53,000 individuals making donations in support of 4,300 nonprofits and schools. In 2012, Razoo hosted fourteen giving days, which raised a total of $25 million from 96,000 donors.
In 2012, Razoo also served as an official giving platform in the inaugural nationwide event — an online campaign designed, in the wake of the media-fueled consumer frenzy surrounding Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to encourage people to give to those in need.
"Giving Days are effective ways to bring communities together and highlight the great work that local nonprofits are doing," said Razoo CEO Lesley Mansford. "They create a sense of urgency, and the gamified elements make Giving Days fun....Through Razoo's platform of localized giving we plan to exceed the number of Giving Days in 2013, with eight already scheduled in the first quarter."
