The in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, has announced a $1.5 million grant from the in support of its Digital Learning and Engagement Division.
The three-year grant will enable the museum to create a range of robust multimedia experiences and educational resources for visitors on site, online, and who check out one of its traveling exhibitions, including a digital gallery tour that uses virtual and augmented reality technologies and is accessible from mobile devices; an online curriculum collaborative; a social media campaign targeting youth; and a comprehensive online media hub that offers podcasts, interviews, lectures, and student galleries.
According to the museum, the partnership with Lucas, an avid Rockwell collector, evolved from the shared belief that Rockwell's art transcends generations and cultures, communicating universal ideals related to community, family, and human rights, and that quality museum programming should support learning in the classroom while broadening cultural awareness.
"It was Norman Rockwell's wish that his collection be used to educate and engage the broadest of audiences," said museum director and CEO Laurie Norton Moffatt. "This latest support from the George Lucas Family Foundation brings us that much closer to achieving his wish."
