EDUTEL Receives $2 Million From Michael & Susan Dell Foundation

Bangalore-based EDUTEL Technologies has announced an investment of INR 124 million (approximately $2 million) from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation to scale its innovative distance-learning solution to underserved schools in India.

To address the shortage of competent teachers in millions of Indian schools, EDUTEL will broadcast highly customized content delivered by qualified teachers to multiple classrooms in government-run and low-fee private schools. EDUTEL's satellite-based, two-way-communication-enabled infrastructure leverages a network of satellites and ground studios, which the Indian government makes available at a low cost for the purpose of education and college entrance exam prep.

"EDUTEL offers one of the most relevant, outcomes-oriented, technologically driven solutions that we have come across in India focused on our target segment â€” underserved children," said Prachi Windlass, who heads the foundation’s education efforts in South Asia. "The company's focus on the entire delivery system, from building an efficient 'technology pipe' to low-income children, to developing tailored and intriguing content that captures the imagination of students during the learning process, to adapting and addressing change in learning levels demonstrates their capability for becoming a high-quality service provider for senior school education and college test preparation in India. We are proud to partner with EDUTEL on this exciting journey."
