The has announced a $10 million gift from the in support of undergraduate science education.
The gift includes $8 million for an academic science building that will be renamed the Don & Cathy Jacobs Science Building. Recently opened, the 110,000-square-foot, $112 million building features state-of-the-art laboratories, advanced lecture halls, technology-enabled active learning (TEAL) classrooms, outdoor teaching spaces, and interior green space. The remaining $2 million will fund future investments in academic programming and research.
Don Jacobs, who died in April 2015, and his wife, Cathy, previously gave a gift to the university to establish the at the Gatton College of Business and Economics and the at the UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital. They also have supported the and . Their latest gift brings their total giving to the university to more than $20 million. Don Jacobs owned a car dealership business that spanned three states, while Cathy Jacobs founded and later sold a successful advertising agency.
"Don and I always believed that to whom much is given, much is required," said Cathy Jacobs. "I am grateful that we have been blessed so that we can help others."
