has announced that Diana Aviv will step down as the organization's chief executive on September 30 to become CEO at .
Aviv has led IS for twelve years and most recently guided it through a strategic visioning process that resulted in a comprehensive "re-founding" effort designed to position the organization to meet the challenges of the future. As part of that effort, the organization has conducted a series of "Threads" conversations in fifteen communities across the country in which leaders and practitioners from the community meet face-to-face to discuss the trends, challenges, and opportunities that will affect organizations and individuals working toward the common good over the next twenty years.
While acknowledging that Aviv's departure was unexpected, IS has already formed a search committee to find here replacement that will be led by Steven McCormick, the former CEO of the and president of the and current CEO of .
"While we are sorry to see Diana move on, we thank her for her years of service here and for all of her contributions to Independent Sector," said IS board chair Neil Nicoll, former CEO of the YMCA of the USA. "Thanks in large part to Diana's leadership, the charitable sector in this country is stronger and more influential — and Independent Sector is well-positioned for the future."
