Florida

The has announced that for the second consecutive year the county has been recognized as a Pacesetter by the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. Initially focused on four attendance zones, with special emphasis on select elementary schools in the county, the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading efforts in Sarasota County saw a reduction in chronic absenteeism, a significant improvement in the school readiness of students attending pre-K programs, and a rise in the number of students attending summer learning programs.

Michigan

The Louisville Water Foundation in Kentucky has announced a $31,000 gift to the in support of its Child Health and Development Fund. The money was raised by Louisville Water during February by collecting pairs of shoes for the Flint Love campaign. Typically, the utility sells the shoes it receives to an exporter and uses the proceeds to bring safe drinking water systems to communities around the world, but the February drive was devoted to immediate needs in Flint. According to CFGF, as of February 28 the Flint Child Health and Development Fund has netted more than $2.1 million in donations from more than seventy-eight hundred donors.

Minnesota

The is launching a $1.5 million initiative that aims to address the opportunity gap among area children, the Duluth News Tribune reports. Funded by the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, the program will enable DSACF to provide grants to partner organizations working to help financially disadvantaged families. In addition, DSACF will involve community members to ensure that it hears and addresses the concerns of those in the community.

North Carolina

The in Hendersonville has announced the availability of the Pisgah Chapter of Trout Unlimited William L. Arbuckle Memorial Scholarship for the 2016-17 academic year. The scholarship will provide $1,000 to students accepted by an accredited degree-granting college or university in the southern Appalachian region who plan to pursue an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in fisheries and wildlife management, aquaculture, freshwater biology, or a related field. The deadline to apply is April 1.

Pennsylvania

The has announced that it will host the seventh annual Day of Giving for Allegheny, Butler, and Westmoreland county nonprofits on May 3. The date coincides with , a national campaign in which a hundred and eighty community foundations will participate in 11-hour crowdfunding event designed to empower residents to give back to their local communities by supporting organizations working to tackle a community’s most critical issues. In Pittsburgh, the public will be able to support participating nonprofits through the foundation's donation portal. To create added incentive, the foundation will offer prizes from a $100,000 pool (restricted to Allegheny County nonprofits) throughout the day-long event. Prizes will include bonus grants to participating organizations in various categories, including most first-time donors and most creative social media campaign. The community foundations in Butler and counties are each raising funds for their own matching pools, and will announce those closer to the date of the event.

Washington

The has announced that it is accepting nominations for the Patsy Collins Award for Excellence in Education, Environment, and Community. Established in memory of Collins by an anonymous donor, the award honors three extraordinary teachers or teams of teachers with awards of $10,000, which can be used at the discretion of the winning teachers or teams. Nominees should be K-12 classroom teachers in a public or private school in Washington who demonstrate a commitment to engaging students in learning experiences in the classroom, schoolyard, and surrounding community; engage students in project-based experiences that motivate and inspire them toward environmental awareness and/or stewardship behaviors; serve as a respected resource for their colleagues and community leaders; and are committed to professional development. The deadline for nominations is April 30.
