has announced a $10 million gift from the .
The gift will support inpatient services at the hospital, which has been ranked the top children's hospital in California. The restaurant group also will provide funding for activity booklets to be distributed to emergency department patients by the hospital's Child Life staff. In recognition of the gift, the hospital will name the sixth floor of its Marion and John E. Anderson Pavilion after the company and has placed a large panda statue in the bamboo garden adjacent to the emergency department.
Since 2003, Panda Restaurant Group has raised nearly $6.5 million for CHLA, including funds raised through in-store donation boxes in Panda Express restaurants, workplace giving from its employees, the annual , and CHLA's biennial gala.
The group's founders, co-chairs, and co-CEOs, Andrew and Peggy Cherng, are longtime supporters of the hospital. Andrew Cherng has been recognized for his business leadership by magazine, the , and the . Peggy Cherng, an engineer by training, serves on the CHLA board of trustees and the boards of the and . Prior to joining the Panda Restaurant Group, she was a leading member of software development teams at McDonnell Douglas and Comtal-3M.
