Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Receives $4 Million Bequest

The has announced a $4 million bequest from long-time patron Jane Kitselman, who passed away in March at the age of 87.

In recognition of the largest gift in its fifty-year history, the society will dedicate its forthcoming performances of the Beethoven String Quartet Cycle to Kitselman and will perform an annual concert dedicated to her. A cellist herself, Kitselman was especially fond of string quartet literature.

"The scope of the Kitselman gift is inspiring for CMS in that it reflects the extremely large, ambitious, and consequential nature of our work for chamber music," said artistic directors David Finckel and Wu Han. "That Jane not only loved chamber music but sensed the enormous potential that CMS has for growing classical music audiences, for reaching out to new listeners in new places, for innovating in the areas of programming, artist development, and new repertoire, is extraordinary. We are enormously grateful to her and value the continued friendship of her family, who will certainly see the wonderful fruits of her bequest at work."
