Carnegie Corporation of New York Awards $19.6 Million in Grants

The has announced first-quarter grants totaling more than $19.6 million.

Grants made through CCNY's International Program include a final three-year, $2.65 million award to the in Nairobi in support of a consortium of African universities working to strengthen postgraduate training and research capacity in public health and population studies, and an award of $300,000 over two years to the in Vienna in support of efforts to professionalize management and strengthen governance in the field of nuclear security.

Support awarded through the foundation's National Program include a $1 million grant to the in Los Angeles in support of the organization's voting rights litigation working group, and a grant of $1.5 million to in New York for its TALENT Initiative: Preparing and Teaming Effective Teachers and Leaders for School Improvement.

In addition, the foundation awarded grants through its Special Opportunities Fund to eight organizations, including the in New York, which received a grant of $750,000 for "Moyers & Company," and the in Washington, D.C. which received a grant of $300,000 for a public education and engagement campaign related to the influence of immigration and democracy on the American identity.
