Burroughs Wellcome Fund Awards $2.2 Million for STEM Education

The has announced thirteen grants totaling $2.16 million in support of "informal" science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in North Carolina.

Awarded through the foundation's Student Science Enrichment Program, the grants will support programs offered outside traditional classroom time. They include the Watershed Moments program at the , EcoEXPLORE (Experience Promoting Learning Outdoors for Research and Education) at the , the iNnovative Exploration of Science and Technology (iNEST) program at , and the After-school and Summer Engineering Adventure Camp at .

"We are amazed at the abundance of STEM education programs that take place in our state," said BWF president John Burris. "We look forward to the success of the thirteen that continue our tradition of supporting science education in North Carolina."
