Buffett, Gates, Bloomberg Top List of Biggest Givers

Of the ten richest people in the United States, Warren Buffett, Bill and Melinda Gates, and Michael R. Bloomberg have given the largest shares of their fortunes to charity, the reports.

According to the Chronicle's analysis, Buffett personally has donated 71.1 percent ($46.6 billion) of his wealth since 2000, while the Gateses and Bloomberg have given 22.2 percent ($18 billion) and 10.2 percent ($4.6 billion). Buffett's $46.6 billion in total giving includes $36 billion pledged to the in 2006. In 2010 Buffett and the Gateses launched the , a campaign to encourage the world's wealthiest individuals to give at least half their wealth to charity.

Of the remaining seven of the ten wealthiest Americans, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have donated 5.9 percent ($2.2 billion) and 4 percent ($1.5 billion), respectively, David Koch 3 percent ($1.2 billion), Mark Zuckerberg 2.9 percent ($1.6 billion), Larry Ellison 2.4 percent ($1.2 billion), and Charles Koch 1.5 percent ($627 million). Jeff Bezos, the second richest American according to Forbes, has donated 0.1 percent ($68 million) of his fortune to date and recently used Twitter to crowdsource ideas for his future philanthropic activities.
