has announced a five-year, $10 million grant from the in support of the youth organization's efforts to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
In 2011, the WellPoint Foundation announced a $5 million commitment in support of a BGCA program that teaches young people about the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition. With the new grant from the foundation, the organization will expand its nutrition and exercise programming, which includes competitive and non-competitive games and physical activities, to communities and clubs across the country. By 2019, the organization hopes to have reached more than nine million children and youth and created environments that emphasize health and wellness, including nutrition-related activities that underscore portion control, a balanced diet, and improving access to healthy food choices.
"Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is an essential component for youth to achieve great futures," said BGCA president and CEO Jim Clark. "WellPoint Foundation's continued support will help create a culture of wellness at our clubs and enable us to reach more kids and communities to change the trajectory of youth health. We are truly grateful for their support as a signature partner of our Great Futures Campaign, which seeks to raise the national dialogue and advocate on behalf of all of America’s kids. Together, we can transform an entire generation."
