Boys & Girls Clubs of America Receives $10 Million to Combat Obesity

has announced a five-year, $10 million grant from the in support of the youth organization's efforts to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

In 2011, the WellPoint Foundation announced a $5 million commitment in support of a BGCA program that teaches young people about the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition. With the new grant from the foundation, the organization will expand its nutrition and exercise programming, which includes competitive and non-competitive games and physical activities, to communities and clubs across the country. By 2019, the organization hopes to have reached more than nine million children and youth and created environments that emphasize health and wellness, including nutrition-related activities that underscore portion control, a balanced diet, and improving access to healthy food choices.
