has announced that its and Employee Community Fund in St. Louis have awarded grants totaling more than $5 million to nonprofits in the St. Louis metro area.
The grants will provide support to organizations working in the areas of education, health and human services, arts and culture, and civic and environmental improvement. Recipients include the , which supports approximately eighty organizations in the region, and , which provides residential care and assisted-living services for older adults.
Boeing St. Louis employees also provide nonfinancial support to St. Louis-area nonprofits, including more than 25,000 volunteer hours in 2009. In addition to its contributions to nonprofits, Boeing annually contributes nearly $800,000 to local scholarships and other student-retention initiatives, as well as more than $15 million in continuing education for nearly 2,500 of its employees who attend Missouri and Southern Illinois colleges and universities.
"During this time of great need," said Boeing St. Louis regional executive George Roman, "we're committed to [the region] and proud to partner with the organizations that work every day to make St. Louis a better place for their neighbors."
