2012 Echoing Green Fellows Announced

has announced the recipients of its annual fellowship program, which for the first time includes a cohort of .

The inaugural class of BMA fellows comprises nine emerging social entrepreneurs working to advance the prospects of African-American men and boys in the United States. Each BMA fellow will receive $70,000 in startup capital, as well as technical training, consulting opportunities, mentoring, and access to the alumni network of Echoing Green and fellows.

Representing eight countries, the latest cohort of Echoing Green fellows aims to spark social movements that address the world's toughest challenges. Among other things, individual Echoing Green fellows in this year's class are working to create a community-driven emergency medical response system in India, develop fortified staple flours with micronutrients in Kenya, provide legal counsel for death-row prisoners in Pakistan, and build an accessible distribution platform for high-quality products for rural communities in China.
