A study by finance professors at Georgetown and New York universities estimates that the mean annual investment return of nonprofit endowments between 2009 and 2016 was 6.65 percent, compared with benchmark returns of 7.96 percent for long-term government bonds and 13.7 percent for U.S. equities....
