The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) was founded in 2000 with one clear objective: accelerating meaningful therapeutic advances and, ultimately, a cure for Parkinson’s disease (PD). The Foundation applies extraordinary scientific, business and media assets to this singular focus—thus creating a unique and dynamic organization. Since inception, MJFF has quickly grown into the largest global funder of Parkinson’s disease research outside the U. S. federal government, having funded over $800 million in research projects in both academic and industry labs worldwide.

Core to our philosophy is how we think of our capital and its risk profile relative to other stakeholders in the drug development pipeline. We work aggressively to de-risk various therapeutic strategies and tools in the hopes of building a robust pipeline of new treatments for patients. In order to achieve our mission of finding a cure for PD it is critical that we engage with, and bring together, members of the PD community including researchers, physicians, health professionals and most important, people with Parkinson's and their families. We believe that raising the Foundation’s profile with a broader audience will help us more efficiently reach and mobilize highly engaged stakeholders who are more likely to feel personally vested in helping speed progress toward a cure.

We believe that to find a cure for PD as quickly as possible, our capital needs to push research forward today — we therefore deliberately have no endowment. We instead start our fundraising from zero each year and seek to deploy funds raised as quickly and wisely as possible. MJFF raises over $90 million annually. Today, the Foundation has approximately 130 full-time employees who are based in New York City.

Job Summary

The Associate Director, Events will report directly to the Director, Events. This position manages the Foundations growing Community Events portfolio including the Fox Trot 5K series and Tour de Fox Cycling Series in addition to working on key special events.

Candidate must be a self-starter with experience in event execution. Key qualities of an outstanding Associate Director include excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, a positive disposition and solid judgment. The Events Coordinator must also possess sound time management skills as well as an innate sense of curiosity, pace and urgency. Equally important is the ability to work productively and proactively, both independently and within a team environment.

The Associate Director will play an integral role in strategy, planning, and delivery of the community events portfolio. The Associate Director will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day workflow of one team member who handles the event logistics as well as the relationships with the primary community members and Team Fox Champions.


Community Events:

  • Provide leadership, oversight and project management of the Events Officer to ensure stellar logistics planning and execution 7 Fox Trots and 5 Tour de Fox events in 2018.
  • Interact with CEO, Co-Founder and VP, Development on planning strategy and logistics
  • Drive the growth strategy of Community Events
  • Working alongside team members to ensure the successful delivery of events
  • Research, introduce and oversee execution of new event enhancement concepts and impactful channels (print, online and social media) of promoting events
  • Track and maintain the key budget aspects of the program across all deliverables
  • Prepare budget tracking reports for internal assessment of project progress
  • Work with event team to ensure proper coverage at events including leadership
  • 10-20% travel required

Special Events:

  • Support with logistics and execution of Foundation events. This will include but not limited to assistance on collateral, vendor negotiations, ticket purchases and receipt tracking, program timeline implementation, gift bag solicitation/procurement and on-site event management.
  • Manage staff at events (pre-event staff briefing meeting, check-in, gift bag distribution, prize table, coordinating prizes for event winners, etc.)
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned


Qualifications and Skills: The ideal candidate will be a pro-active, self-directed and organized professional who possesses the following skills and attributes:


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 - 5 years similar relationship management experience
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong inter-personal skills and excellent phone skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Is a self-starter with sound judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Familiarity with Salesforce CRM software or equivalent software, a plus
