Investing in the Future: Women and Girls in All Their Diversity

A report from the outlines the organization's ongoing efforts to advance the health and rights of girls and women around the world, with a focus on equity and equality as a critical component of its strategy. The report, (29 pages, PDF), discusses the fund's actions and impact — as well as the challenges it has faced — in implementing gender-responsive policies and processes, ensuring the meaningful engagement of girls as change agents, investing in people, building systems for health, and strengthening partnerships and innovative collaboration. According to the report, one major gap that continues to hamper effective national responses, especially to HIV/AIDS, and which the fund has worked to address, is the quantity and quality of data for key and vulnerable populations. The report also notes that in contexts where women, girls, and gender non-conforming people face enormous gender-based inequalities, efforts to promote their meaningful engagement requires sustained energy, capacity building, and supportive policies; offers examples of how the fund tailors prevention and treatment programs to sub-populations facing poverty, gender discrimination, criminalization, and other factors that increase the risk of being exposed to AIDS, tuberculosis, and/or malaria; and describes the fund's collaborative work with community members and community-based organizations, civil society organizations, the , academia, the private sector, religious communities, and bilateral donors.
